People who stockpile stuff inside their homes may have more to deal with than a cluttered home. Hoarding can signify a mental condition associated with anxiety and depression. Hoarding may indicate there is something else going on in our lives that need some serious attention.

Hoarding from the above description can be like the canary in the coal mine that is trying to alert us to the fact something is wrong.

I came across the above description of hoarding during my own research on the subject. It made me think about my recent battle with what I consider an actual affliction of the mind. Collecting books over a period of twenty plus years I finally had to acknowledge and accept the fact that I had become a book hoarder.

At first I was proud of my “collection” of books, and called myself the “book lady.” My shelves brimmed with mostly non-fiction on a variety of subjects, all used for my research for fiction stories in romance, erotic romance, forensic thrillers, and contemporary romance, which I write and publish.
