I'm in a writing mood today... But that's nothing new. Hello, and welcome. Pull up a chair, lean back, relax. Want a green tea? They're my favorite... So, you want to know about me? I was born in the Summer of '84. Was raised in small town, Kentucky---its grown up since then, they're at around 25,000 now. Watch out! I've always had a vivid imagination. My folks sometimes say it's because I grew up away from my older sister, and was mostly alone as a child. Not abandoned alone, but void of other children most of the time. So, I compensated by creating massive adventures in the back yard. I explained why there were twelve different "Batman" action figures in various suits, creating my own league of "Batmen" each with their own backgrounds, abilities and so on.... But that's not why you came here, now is it? No... You want to know when it happened---when I started to write. That my friend started when it started. What I mean is, as soon as I learned something was possible, I did it. I could probably pin a year on it, back to maybe First or second grade. Maybe even earlier, but I won't confirm the old wives tale of us writers having a huge ego. Not yet. I can say I first discovered great stories before I ever started School. Was my mother's fault, and I'm eternally grateful for it. I'll never forget that first reading of H.G. Wells's "The Time Machine." Science Fiction was a thing I enjoyed thoroughly for a stretch. The machines, the possibilities, and the insane explanations. Very enjoyable. But I grew, and my tastes changed. I wrote different things and different times. I even put it off altogether once because of a harsh criticism from a Seventh grade Teacher... I became an active leader in the Church I was attending and during that time Discovered one Mister Frank Peretti. He is a Christian Author with a decent understanding of horror---Supernatural Horror. Long Story Short as they say, I resigned from my positions in Church for my own reasons and not long afterward rediscovered Stephen King. King holds a special place in my dark heart. His works inspire me sure, and challenge the hell out of me. If he can do it, why can't I? Then came others... Clive Barker haunted my deepest soul with his "Hellbound Heart." A tattered old copy I found in a Peddler's mall. I love and adore this book nearly as much as I am terrified of it. Again I saw a challenge, a thing to aspire for. If he could do it, why not I? I write and I write and I write. There is no end, not to passion, not to something written upon the heart---even if it might be shadowed heart. The words come, and they go, but never too far away. I've never felt more alive than when in front of my 'puter banging away like a madman to the vicious songs in my word weaving imagination. I have yet to be officially discovered. But who I am to let that stop me? How's that Green Tea treatin' ya? Need another one? Tell ya what, grab that tea and let's take a trip. Just you, me, and a few good tales...

Hell and Step On It by Kyt Dotson Hell and Step On It by Kyt Dotson July 09, 2009 $0.99 4121 words Sample 5%
Author bio:
I’ve always disliked introductions—they make me uncomfortable. I’m used to listening, smiling… These always involve too much talking. I could copy and paste something I already have, I’m sure, but I suppose that would be cheating anyone reading. And that wouldn’t be fun at all. Should it be posh or vulgar? Crystalline and perfect in reception or scrawled out with the grace of a child with crayons and chalk… I guess that both would fit equally well, but truthfully, I’d rather avoid the clever. So posh it is. So a metaphor came to me, let’s try an introduction like mixing a drink. All the elements are there: first a spirit—whiskey, rum; second something for substance—soda, juice; and finally perhaps flavor—ice, mint, cinnamon-snap. So the substance… I live in Michigan during the summer and Arizona during the winter, rather particularly like a snowbird, except that I don’t drive. And I don’t quite adhere to that schedule either, I just have friends split between those states and I work in Phoenix. I am Irish by heritage but demure by demeanor. I dress in black because of tradition. I expect to die of heart failure, unless my friends somehow find me immortality. So some flavor… My favorite author is Mary Woolstonecraft Shelley, further that I’ll oft’ refer to her as my adopted mother. I love reading, always have book on my desk, in my pocket, at hand, or simply tucked/tied/wrapped to my notebook and pen. I like Goth Industrial music and Harsh EBM, folk, rock, Celtic. VNV Nation, Covenant, Blutengel, In Strict Confidence, Qntal, and myriad manifold others. And finally the spirit… I am an author—and a glowing one at that; I also write poetry—but nothing worth mentioning. I like street corners and thunderstorms, small furry creatures and libraries, the sound of a thousand feet walking and the smell of morning after a long night. I’ll try not to wax poetic. I am a healer, ex-medic; now if only I could keep everyone from breaking themselves. Most importantly: I love people. Too clever, I suppose, but hopefully entertaining naetheless.

Author bio:
My name is Joshua T. Calkins-Treworgy. I'm a 26 year old father of 2 beautiful little girls in Eden, New York State. I'm a new author, and intend to make writing my career, so that my wife won't have to work so much, and I won't have to work in the work-a-day world forever. Also because I love storytelling. My writing is in the realm of high fantasy, a genre for which I have a deep love. I've been reading fantasy and sci-fi novels for years, and among my favorite authors are Stephen R. Donaldson (the Covenant novels), Terry Brooks, Terry Pratchett, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Terry Goodkind. R.A. Salvatore's okay, but I'm not so big on him. I also enjoy the writings of Stephen King, Clive Barker (the old stuff), and Dean Koontz. I'm big on video games, particularly RPGs (role playing games). This stems in part from a long-lived love of pen-and-paper role playing games, like Dungeons and Dragons. In short, I'm a huge nerd. In addition, I'm also a huge Otaku, or anime/manga freak. (Inuyasha is my favorite, along with Negima: Magister Magi Negi, and Bleach)

Chronicles of the Damned by R. N. Matos Chronicles of the Damned by R. N. Matos Sep. 03, 2009 $3.00 126212 words Sample 25%
Author bio:
Writing about one self is always a difficult task. It is so easy to make up things for stories, but telling a complete stranger the truth about one's life is a whole other thing. One doesn't want to come off braggadocios nor embellish too much on the uninteresting. At the same time it is a rare opportunity that one has a chance to tell ones story. So, I shall do my best to tell a good story about myself. I was born in Havana, Cuba at a time when Castro had solidified his control of the island and those who knew better were trying to get out. My father was an anti-revolutionary, a Christian and a distant relative of one of Castro's cohorts who had fallen out of favor, Huber Matos. None of which promised a good future in the new world order of Cuban existence under Marxist-Leninist rule. We left the island when I was four or five years old and from the moment I saw a Woolworth I swore I'd never go back. My father managed to get a job working for the Chase Manhattan, but shortly after that he decided to become a Baptist Minister and he moved the family to Texas. It was a shock to the cultural system. New York City was just so different from San Antonio Texas in 1978. The adjustment was difficult. It was the first time I would hear the N-word, spic, wetback and where Cuban meant I was just another Mexican. I adjusted. I learned to love the state of Texas because with all its faults there is an unmatched sense of freedom I have felt no where else. My senior year in High School my parents moved to Jacksonville, Florida and went through another cultural adjustment. I was enrolled in Nathan Bedford Forrest High School and was exposed to open interracial relationships for the first time. I always found it ironic that in a High School named after one of the founding members of the infamous Klu Klux Klan, an African- American young man with dreadlocks wearing a Jamaican flag on his shirt was walking hand in hand with a blond blue eyed girl wearing a Red Raider t-shirt. Still, these experiences were instrumental in shaping my views on politics, religion, society and economics. I Joined the Army and enlisted with the Airborne Infantry. I was stationed in Alaska for three years with "Charlie Airborne." I left the military in 1989 and enrolled at the International Fine Arts College in Miami - now known as Miami College of Art and Design. I earned an Associates degree in Commercial Arts. I then enrolled at Florida International University. I started illustrating for two small independent comic book companies and then later got my first real job working for a software company designing their packaging. In my graphic design career I've worked for Rum companies and freelanced for high fashion models. Currently, I live in Miami, Florida. I'm married to a beautiful woman who is half Honduran, half Puerto Rican, was born in New York and was raised in North Carolina. How's that for diversity? I have a beautiful nine year old daughter as a result of who we now have a zoo in the house including four dogs, ten geckos and three snakes. I enjoy photography, hiking the paved trails of the Everglades with my family, playing video games and drawing. I am a huge Star Wars fan. My favorite drink is the Mojito. I can't stand whiskey, scotch or tequila, but I do enjoy Patron. I drink beer with friends and enjoy taking their money in a game of Texas Hold'em. I never imagined I would ever write a book, much less a 500 page novel. I have always been a good storyteller, but preferred to express myself visually through illustration and painting. My wife, who has always been an avid reader, urged me to turn my story into a series of novels. I started researching and writing Chronicles of the Damned in 2000 and self-published the first book in December of 2008. I expect it will be a best seller one day and I hope it will become a great movie. This might sound pretentious, but one has to aim high when shooting at such a distant target.
