I write about people, their relationships and the dynamics within. I write books, short stories and TV scripts with a leaning towards drama and black comedy. I have been published and had several scripts considered. I enjoy illustrating the wide range of emotions experienced in life by people of both genders and the permutations of social and personal cultural influences. I like to reach out and to make contact with readers walking beside them and not leaving them before I have evoked within them thought provoking emotions strung between tragedy and joy. I am a person touched by the irony of life and human frailty. Writing is as much a need for me as a want. Many years ago a complete stranger stopped me on the street and she said, “You will always work for a living” which is proving to be true. Today I work hard and don’t play enough. Instead I find myself traversing internalised continents exploring the complexities of life. Sometimes I have experienced life to be hard hitting, startling and scary which is true for so many people. I love my family and enjoy reading, gardening, painting and travelling.

Hello from England. This is a little bit about me, thanks for stopping by! Despite a reprimand by an English Teacher at school for having 'a little too much imagination' I continued to enjoy writing stories. I wrote my first novel length book in the mid-nineties and continued to write half a dozen more that gathered dust until I published one of them in 2009. I simply write what is there and watch the characters grow, it's as long or short as it needs to be to tell that particular tale. The 'themes' to my stories may vary considerably but they tend to all be driven by colourful characters in different scenarios. As Stephen King said: "The object of fiction isn’t grammatical correctness but to make the reader welcome and then tell a story." That sums up my approach really, I hope people like my work of course but never try to target a particular audience or chase a trend. The digital age means that creative artists can get their work out without fitting into neat boxes for huge organisations. Creative work of any kind should in my opinion be judged on it's merits by each individual who engages with it, not by mass promotion or hype. I also try to make a short promo film for each book so feel free to check those out on the book page or at my website!

The Ostraka Plays - Volume Four - A LITTLE WINTER LOVE by Francis Hagan The Ostraka Plays - Volume Four - A LITTLE WINTER LOVE by Francis Hagan Jan. 21, 2012 $2.99 38873 words Sample 20%

I have been writing on and off since I was a shy lad hiding under the bed and scribbling in an out of date diary (I think it was about my space travels). Most of my works have been either plays populated with grotesques who stumble around ruins and those odd places we forget about or epic tales of those last Roman legionaries as they falter and fall at the end of Empire. Over the last three years, I have embarked on a series of plays which I have entitled 'The Ostraka Plays' and in which I am exploring that space where the irrational and the seductive collide. I remain fascinated by a poetics which allows an imagination to populate a forgotten nook in history outside our conventions and expectations. In these plays, the audience is invited into worlds which remain provisional and insecure - and where freedom is that release from convention. The other side of my writings could not be more opposite - in these stories, the dying light of Rome flutters one last desperate time as I seek to follow the last of the Eagles down into their fates. Here, archaeological record, literary fragments, and my own invention intertwine to set a stage ripe for heroics and betrayal.

Crazy, adventurous and Spontaneous and always looking for that next adventure. This is how I live and write and want both myself and my characters to be remembered. Life is too short to just sit around in front of a TV in your free time. Born in London, but grew up in Cyprus, Germany, Wales and Scotland, I was diagnosed with the travel and writing bugs very early in life. Writing, reading and traveling are my main passions in life, but I also love outdoor sports from Rugby and Hiking to Tennis and Rock climbing. I'm writing another book right now about my recent four month crazy and awesome back packing adventure through Eastern Europe, from Estonia to Sarajevo, and basically looking forward to more traveling and writing adventures in the near future. I try and treat each day like it was my last. If you never ask then the answer is always no. Live your life now.

My hours are divided between writing plays (occasionally directing them), playing classical guitar, practicing Tai Chi and spending time with family and friends. I enjoy writing because it allows me to become someone else - often many people. I can live their ups and downs, share in their joys and traumas. More importantly not take sides. Otherwise, alone in a quiet room playing a Dowland lute transcription on my classical guitar is something close to spiritual. Information about my other works can be found by visiting my Web site (see link below). Updated: 30 December 2011

Always There's Omens by Kate Walker Always There's Omens by Kate Walker Dec. 26, 2011 $0.99 6377 words Sample 25%
Author bio:
Hi, I'm Kate Walker. I live in Australia and I write for Children, Young Adults and Adults. I've been writing since 1977 and I love it. Writing is the only thing I want to do when I get up in the morning. I'd write all day long if I could. Which is just as well because I'm one of the slowest writers on the planet. It takes me an age to write anything. I do dozens of drafts. Even a short story often takes me years to complete. I write all kinds of books. Picture books. Chapter books. Poetry. Non-fiction educational books. Novels for Younger & Older Readers. And Short Stories for Adults. Maybe I’ve been searching for the writing genre that’s easy. If so, I think I have to admit there isn’t one. All writing is hard. My Children's Books – When I write for Children I’m interested in the light-hearted side of life, the silliness and the fun. I like my bad guys to get their comeuppances, though not too severely, and my good guys to always shine through. Young Adult Stories – When writing for Young Adults I like to focus on the deeply emotional moments of life. Adolescence is never fun and mine certainly wasn’t a joy-ride. It was a time of being lost, insecure and always out of my depth. There’s all these new feelings and often they’re overwhelming. It’s those overwhelming moments I try to capture, because they happen to everyone and somehow we come through OK. Adult Stories – In writing for Adults my focus is usually on the harshness of perceived reality and the joys and wonder of the spiritual life – that other existence that shines through the banal and, the instant we are ready, takes us in its arms. Because of the vast differences in what I write, I've posted my Children's writing and Adult writing on two separate web pages. Please see: www.katewalkerwriter4children.com & www.katewalkeraustralia.com There's an accomplished Romance writer named Kate Walker who publishes with Mills & Boon and Harlequin. If you’ve come to this page looking for her, her home page web address is: www.kate-walker.com Greetings, Kate.

Author bio:
Spent my informative years in Oldham and Manchester, started to travel as soon as I could afford a passport and a backpack. Came to Australia in the late eighties and spent almost twenty years there. Lived predominately with Aboriginal people for the last decade of my stay, which gave me an insight into a culture that is very, very different to my own and an insight into the relationship and tensions between indigineous and non-indigineous people in this country. Returned to the UK in 2005 to spend time with my ailing Father and our relationship and our journey forms part of 'Cleaning Up'. I returned to OZ with my wife, Juliet, at the end of last year and will be here for the foreseeable future. Hope you enjoy the story- please buy it to allow me a life of leisure and luxury! Paul
